Growing an indoor plant is a great idea, but are you worried about the high maintenance of these plants. Rubber plants are the most popular indoor plants and are very easy to care. Rubber plants can create a style statement for your home. Rubber plants are also known as Ficus Elastica.

It can be grown in medium-size or large sizes depending upon the right conditions. If you want smaller plants, keep them in a smaller pot to restrict their growth. It is good to know the details before buying rubber plants.

Rubber plants need bright and medium light. But don't place them in direct sunlight; it can scorch rubber plant's leaves. You can place a Rubber plant where sunlight comes inside through a curtain. That is a great idea.

Your plant will get filtered sunlight. Colorful rubber plants need extra sunlight. In low light, its leaves get larger but will lose their luster and shine. Its leaves can also fall and may be leggier. Keep its leaves dust-free. Wipe them with a damp cloth regularly. For proper absorption of light, rotate your plants every month. Plants grow fast in the direction of sunlight.

Mix soil with peat and perlite in the ratio of 1:1:1 in a well-draining pot. Adding some bark is also useful. Rubber plants need moist soil in the summer season, but in the dormant season, it requires less water. When you plan to water a rubber plant, check its three to five cm layer. If it is dry, then water it until it leaks out of the drainage holes of your pot.

Put the rubber plant in its tray with water and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Then drain the excess water. Please don't leave it in water for too long otherwise, and it can rot. As in dormant seasons, plants require less water, so watering once in 2-3 weeks is enough. If rubber plant' leaves get droopy, then it requires more water.

The watering frequency depends on the soil mixture, pot size, and growing conditions of your plant. Rubber plants are tropical so that they can flourish better in warmer climates rather than humid ones. 60 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit is best for these plants.

You can use a humidifier to dry air in winter. It will help rubber plants thrive in colder months. To allow new growth to rubber plants and keep them hardy and healthy, pruning is necessary. You can prune rubber plants any time of the year. Remove dead leaves and branches, but avoid pruning in winter.

Clean and wipe off scissors before pruning and cut above the plant's nodules. Also, wear gloves before pruning so that you can avoid the contact of SAP which rubber plants release while cutting. Worm compost is better for rubber plants. You can also use a liquid organic fertilizer. Excess amounts of fertilizer can cause burns to rubber plants.

In the dormant phase of spring to summer, fertilization can harm the rubber plant. Use some slow-release fertilizer or liquid fertilizer mixing with water.

If you want to restrict your plant's growth, then don't report it. Choose a port three times larger than the root ball of the rubber plant.

Fill one-third with potting soil. After this, place the plant and fill more soil. Water it until it leaks out the drainage hole. You can also propagate a new rubber plant, snip a small branch and root it in soil when the sap is dried out.
