How to Grow House Plants that Purify Your Home or Office

Pollution has been increasing these days rapidly, so getting pure and fresh air has been very difficult. Environmental pollution has affected the air quality. Other pollutants caused by power plants, vehicles, factories, smog, etc., have affected metro cities in the long run. 

When we go outside, we can use masks or other protections, but what about indoor pollution? Although many air purifiers are available in the market, they are commercial and not economically affordable for everyone. Air purifying plants are environmentally and budget-friendly too. Indoor plants add beauty to our home and office and are very beneficial for our health. 

House plants improve the air quality very quickly. Certain house plants absorb harmful gases and chemicals from the air and clean it. Although houseplants are not as good air purifiers as commercial ones, you will get extra benefits and bonuses from them. 


Buy some air purifying plants for the bedroom, and they will make you feel more connected to nature and aesthetic beauty and content calm and pleasing. Air-purifying house plants can tolerate low light also and detoxify the air. House plants that purify the air absorb toxins from the air and provide oxygen to humans.

Indoor air purifying plants have significantly less demand. This also depends on a plant to plant and the medium in which they are grown, e.g., soil, water, and Coco peat.


-House plants like good sunlight conditions.

-House plants like bright sunlight, but they can be kept Indoors also. Just mix some Coco Peat in the soil so that plants can maintain the moisture in their roots.

-Provide micronutrients every 15 to 20 days to maintain healthy growth. -Spray some mild insecticide.

-Some plants need watering only once a week, like snake plants that zz plants. You can place them in sunlight for some hours until 6 to 10 days.

-Some indoor plants need watering on alternate days, like all kinds of ferns. You can place them indoors too but provide them with good sunlight.

-Some plants require less watering if you plant them in coco peat mixing with soil like money plants, philodendron, and Aglaonema.

-Indoor plants like spider plants and peace Lily need watering on alternate days. Please keep them in good sunlight also.

-Tulsi and English Ivy require full sunlight and water them daily.

-You can water in 2-3 days for aloe vera and areca palm.


If you want to keep indoor plants' leaves clean, disease-free, and shining, then you can use plant shampoo. Mix them with water and Spray. To provide better immunity to the indoor plants, You can mix Neem powder in the soil. If indoor plants or branches get infected with fungus, you can spray Neem Oil mixing in water. 


Plant food is also necessary every 3 to 4 weeks for houseplants. You do not need to worry about growing air purifier plants for home and office. Houseplants can prove a great air purifier to fight against indoor air pollution. These are some air-purifying plants that remove the toxins from the air and provide a better environment.


Bamboo palm- This plant cleans the indoor air and removes toxins like formaldehyde, toluene, and xylene. Provide them some space to grow and see the result of how they improve the quality of air in your home and office. Bamboo plants can grow up to the height of 20 feet very rapidly. But if you want to confine their height, then put them in a smaller pot. 


It requires bright light and frequent watering, and it also has the quality of insect repellents. Bamboo palm removes all the substances from the air like carbon monoxide, chloroform, formaldehyde, benzene, etc.


Golden photos

Golden pothos' broad leaves make it an effective houseplant; you can display it in a hanging basket, it can grow up to the height of 40 feet. It adds bright colors to your room, is very easy to grow, and removes toxins from the air.


Areca palm 

This is also a popular air purifier plant. It not only removes harmful toxins from the air but also works as a humidifier. This plant lowers the humidity levels inside the house, a must in a country like India where the humidity levels are higher. Don't expose it to direct sunlight; otherwise, its leaves will turn yellow. By removing toxins from the air, it will provide you with a clean atmosphere.


Snake plants

It is also known as mother-in-law's tongue and can thrive in any climate, even without water for a week. Place it in direct light sometimes to flourish well, but it can thrive in low light also. By releasing oxygen at night, it helps us in breathing well. Snake plants clean the air by removing the toxins like benzene, toluene, xylene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene.
