About bonsai

Bonsai is a tree dwarf by pruning the roots it has grown in a container. The name Bonsai has been derived from the Japanese Bon that means shallow pot and sai means tree. Bonsai is a combination of horticulture techniques, science and art. This technique is used to miniaturize a huge tree.

Choose the right pots for bonsai

Pots made from ceramic, semi ceramic and Terracotta are a good choice for bonsai. don't choose the concrete or cement force as they heat too much and affect the soil. Wooden plastic and fiberglass pots are also ok but they don't last long. The container should be shallow and flat deep approx 3 inches. The pot should be large enough to hold the plant and for proper growth.


Soil and fertilizer

Soil mixture that can retain moisture and drain quickly is perfect for the bonsai plants. Provide fertilizer to your plant during the growing season generally spring to fall. Super mote to promote root growth and health fertilizer content contain three main components nitrogen phosphorus p and potassium k.

Nitrogen is used for leaf growth and stem care. Phosphorus also promotes root growth and health.  Potassium is beneficial in flowering and fruiting you can also add cow dung and bone meal. 


Where to put

Outdoor bonsai plant-like plenty of sun. And for indoor Bonsai window sills and bright corners are good choices. Check the light availability before choosing your bonsai. Choose a tropical variety such as species of Schefflera and hibiscus if you are looking for an indoor bonsai plant.


Popular species for bonsai

Many popular Indian trees are perfect for making bonsais Weeping fig and banyan trees are perfect as Grafted bonsai plants to grow at home. Both these plants require proper sunlight and a good soil mix with the proper drainage system. Other species are Indian crape myrtle, Orange, Jasmine, tamarind, white mulberry.


Watering need

Bonsai causes the roots to dry out very fast because Bonsai pots are slower than the regular pots. Soil should be moist but not soggy; this can cause root rot. Generally When the topsoil dries out water the plant. The watering needs may be different according to the season and location of the plant.

For better growth, the perfect time for watering is before sunrise or after sunset.


Repotting

Reporting is necessary otherwise the bonsai plant gets pot bound. Species of plant and type of container matter while repoting. Repot the plant once every two years for fast-growing species. And for slow-growing species, you can take 3 to 5 years. The process of reporting contains removing excess roots and taking out the plant first and cutting the excess roots to fill the new soil and replace it in the same container.


Pruning

For the desired form of Bonsai pruning is necessary on a regular basis. There are two types of pruning.

-maintenance training 

-structural pruning

-Maintenance pruning


Maintenance pruning is helpful to promote growth in the inner parts. This maintenance and refines the existing shape of a bonsai plant. Cut the new growth on the top of bonsai for healthy growth. To give a tree its basic shape and style structure tuning is beneficial. Best time for pruning is the growing season.
